Jeff Weissman is a New York–based playwright, screenwriter, and composer whose work explores the intersection of dramatic storytelling and classical music.

He holds a B.A. in music from Western Connecticut State University and pursued continuing studies at Juilliard in species counterpoint, orchestration, and conducting. He began as a composer, studying musical theater writing with Drama Desk–nominated composer David Bucknam at the Playwrights Horizons Professional Theatre Program.

His early musical-theater work included A Brighter Blood, for which he composed, arranged, and orchestrated the score, with book and lyrics by Antonia Tancredi. Ophelia, also written with Tancredi, became his first musical to receive a New York production, at the Wings Theatre in the West Village.

After two decades devoted primarily to music, Weissman turned his focus to playwriting and screenwriting. He is an associate member of the Dramatists Guild, ASCAP, and the Writers Guild of America.

His stage work includes Beyond Olympus, which explores Beethoven’s final years through a mythic struggle with the god Apollo and integrates live orchestral music into the drama. The play was presented in a staged reading at the Actors Temple Theatre in New York in 2026 and advanced to the second round of the 2026 Austin Film Festival Playwriting Competition. The project continues its development with conductor and musical director Joe Church.

The screenplay adaptation of Beyond Olympus and the science-fiction thriller Time Stamp also both advanced to the second round of the 2026 Austin Film Festival.

His other screenplays include Paris 1832, a period drama about the young Franz Liszt. The script was a 2026 quarterfinalist in Final Draft’s Big Break Screenwriting Competition. In 2025, Beyond Olympus and Paris 1832 were quarterfinalists in the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards.

He is currently writing The Ant, the Grasshopper and the Spider’s Pearl, an animated feature inspired by Aesop’s fable.

His background as a musician continues to shape his dramatic work, particularly his fascination with artists, ambition, creativity, and the personal cost of pursuing greatness.
